Dave Bing is a Hall of Fame shooting guard and one of the 50 greatest NBA players of all-time.  He was drafted 2nd by the Detroit Pistons in the 1966 NBA Draft.  Dave Bing was known for being an unsung star who simply went out and played hard every game.  During a pre-season game in 1971, he suffered a devastating eye injury that doctors assumed would end his career.  Despite the injury, Dave Bing went on to play seven more seasons.  After his NBA career, he went on to build a successful steel business and eventually served multiple terms as Mayor of Detroit.  Below is a look at his NBA career accomplishments and highlights.

  • 7x All-Star
  • 3x All-NBA
  • 1x Scoring Champion
  • 1966 Rookie of the Year

Dave Bing’s rookie card is in the 1969 Topps set alongside fellow Hall of Famers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Bradley, Walt Frazier, John Havlicek, Tom Sanders, Chet Walker, Jerry Lucas, Gail Goodrich, Elvin Hayes and Earl Monroe.  I purchased a raw card on eBay and sent it TTM in a bubble mailer along with $10 and a blue sharpie.  The card turned out beautifully.
