Alex Rodriguez is considered one of the greatest baseball players of all-time.  He was drafted by the Seattle Mariners with the 1st pick in the 1993 MLB Draft.  Alex Rodriguez was a gifted fielder and an even more dominant hitter who hit both average (career .295) and power (696 career home runs).  He appeared to be a lock for the Hall of Fame but a black cloud surrounds his career due to the usage of PEDs (performance enhancing drugs).  From a numbers’ perspective, it is hard not to consider him an all-time great despite the link to PEDs.  Below is a look at some of his career accomplishments and highlights.

  • 3x MVP
  • 14x All-Star
  • 10x Silver Slugger
  • 2x Gold Glove
  • 1x World Series Champion

Alex Rodriguez’s rookie card is in the 1994 SP set.  It is a beautifully designed set however he is the only significant rookie in the set.  For hit most recent paid signing, I purchased a raw card on eBay and sent along a teal paint pen.  This card has one of the lowest immediate return on investment but I really enjoyed watching Alex Rodriguez.  I also wanted the opportunity to have a more unique card by having one signed in paint pen vs the more common blue sharpie.  Ultimately, I believe the Alex Rodriguez will eventually be inducted into the Hall of Fame.  He paid the price for his rule infraction and is now playing a positive role in the sport as a mentor and well-respected baseball analyst.

Due to his popularity, I think this card will continue to steadily grow in value. If he does get inducted into the Hall of Fame then it will see a signifcant jump in value.  Currently there are only 99 autographed Alex Rodriguez 1994 SP Foil rookie cards in the PSA registry.
