Frank Thomas is a Hall of Fame first baseman and designated hitter.  He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox with the 7th pick in the 1989 MLB Draft.  Nicknamed “The Big Hurt” by former player turned broadcaster Ken Harrelson, Frank Thomas hit for both power (521 home runs) and average (.301).  Hank Aaron, Jimmie Foxx, Willie Mays, Manny Ramirez and Babe Ruth are the only players in history to hit more career home runs and have a higher batting average than Frank Thomas.

Below is a look at some of Frank Thomas’ career accomplishments and highlights.

  • 2x MVP
  • 5x All-Star
  • 4x Silver Slugger
  • 1x Batting Title

Frank Thomas’ preferred rookie card is in the 1990 Leaf set alongside fellow Hall of Famer Larry Walker and former MVP Sammy Sosa.  Several years ago, I purchased his autographed 1990 Topps rookie card and recently flipped it for a profit.  The autograph was streaky and it was time to upgrade it.  I purchased a 1990 Leaf BGS 9 on eBay and cracked it open for a recent paid signing.  Overall, I am really happy with how the card turned out.
