Dan Marino is a Hall of Fame quarterback; widely considered one of the 10 greatest at the position. He was drafted by the Miami Dolphins with the 27th pick in the 1983 Draft.  Shockingly six quarterbacks were taken before Dan Marino.  John Elway and Jim Kelly went on to have Hall of Fame careers but the other four draft picks, never achieved any level of success.  Dan Marino’s fall from the top of the draft boards was documented in ESPN’s 30 for 30 special titled from “Elway to Marino“.  On the field he was dominate and one of the game’s purest pocket quarterbacks.  With his quick release, it was hard for opposing defensives to pressure him.  While he never won a Super Bowl, he was the first quarterback to break 5,000 passing yards in a season.

Below is a look at some of Dan Marino’s career accomplishments and highlights.

  • 9x Pro Bowl
  • 3x All-Pro
  • 1x MVP
  • 1x AP Offensive Player of the Year

Dan Marino’s rookie card is in the 1984 Topps set along with fellow Hall of Famers Dwight Stephenson, John Elway and Eric Dickerson.  I was fortunate to get Dan Marino TTM a couple times throughout the years but decided it was time to upgrade.  I sold off my TTM autographed cards and purchased a 1984 Topps PSA 8 rookie card on eBay to get autographed at a paid signing.  The card turned out perfectly.

Currently there are only 118 autographed Dan Marino 1984 Topps rookie cards in the PSA registry.
