Calvin Johnson is a future Hall of Fame wide receiver.  He was selected by the Detroit Lions with the 2nd pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.  Calvin Johnson was dominate for 9 seasons as he used his size and speed to amass over 11,000 receiving yards.  Frustrated by the team’s lack of commitment to winning, he retired early.  The Detroit Lions may be one of the worst managed franchises in all sports.  They robbed us of seeing both Calvin Johnson and Barry Sanders playing in the prime of their careers.  If he would have continued playing, he was on pace to be one of the top 5 all-time leaders in receiving yards.

Below is a look at some of his career accomplishments and highlights.

  • 6x Pro Bowl
  • 3x All-Pro

Calvin Johnson’s preferred rookie card is in the 2007 Topps Chrome set alongside fellow future Hall of Famers Adrian Peterson and Joe Thomas.  I purchased a 2007 Topps Chrome White Refractor which is numbered to only 869.  The card was a Beckett 9.5 that I cracked opened and sent in for a paid signing.  I have been fortunate to get Calvin Johnson several times TTM and his autograph is always in high demand.  I sold several of my TTMs off and reinvested into this card to hold long term.  Since purchasing the card a few months ago, the comps for the card unsigned have risen to $550.

While getting the card signed in blue sharpie would have been the safer option, I opted to get it signed in white paint pen to match the border of the card.  I am really happy with how it turned.
