Drew Brees was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2001 NFL draft by the San Diego Chargers. It’s hard to imagine now that the only quarterback taken in the first round of that draft was Michael Vick with the #1 overall pick.  Drew Brees is a lock to join fellow 2001 Draft Picks, LaDainian Tomlinson and Steve Hutchinson, in the the Hall of Fame once his career is over.  Below is a look at some of his accomplishments so far.

  • 13x Pro Bowl
  • 1x Super Bowl Champion
  • 2004 AP Comeback Player
  • 2x AP Offensive Player of the Year
  • 77,000+ passing yards
  • 540+ TDs

Below is a look at some of his career highlights.

I have been lucky to get Drew Brees TTM in the past and already had a couple of his 2001 Topps rookie cards autographed but I wanted to add a high-end rookie card to my collection as an investment.  I believe he will be remembered as one of the all-time greats and his popularity will continue beyond his playing career.  With a paid signing scheduled for earlier in the year, I began researching cards to decide what to send in.  My original plan was to send in a 2001 Topps Chrome Refractor but the only option available at the time was unslabbed.  Since there are reprints of that specific card on the market, I didn’t want to risk paying $700 for a card that might not be real.  Ultimately, I decided on a 2001 Topps Finest that was a PSA 10.
