Doug Flutie is a former Pro Bowl quarterback.  His professional career spanned 21 seasons (12 in the NFL, 8 in the CFL and 1 in the USFL).  At Boston College he won the Heisman Trophy in 1984, during which he performed the iconic “Hail Flutie”.  After college, he joined the USFL’s New Jersey Generals.  As a result of his unavailability, he was selected in the 11th round of the 1985 NFL Draft (the lowest drafting ever of a Heisman winner).  The following year, he joined the Chicago Bears as the USFL folded.

In 1990, Doug Flutie left the NFL for the CFL where he became one of the league’s greatest players.  He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player a record 6 times while winning 3 Grey Cups.  In 1998, he rejoined the NFL as a member of the Buffalo Bills.  He led the team to the playoffs and was selected to the Pro Bowl and named the league’s Comeback Player of the Year.  Upon retiring, Doug Flutie was inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.  In addition, he was the first non-Canadian inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.

Below is a look at some of Doug Flutie’s career accomplishments.

  • 6x CFL Most Outstanding Player
  • 3x Grey Cup Champion
  • 1x Pro Bowl
  • 1998 Comeback Player of the Year

Doug Flutie’s rookie card is in the 1985 Topps USFL set.  Throughout the years, he has been great to fans and has signed autographs TTM.  His son was diagnosed with autism and his family established The Doug Flutie Jr Foundation for Autism in his honor.  Since my two boys are both on the autism spectrum, I wanted to get something special to pass down to them.  I sent a card into a paid signing and got the inscription #AutismSpeaks.
