Don Mattingly is a former first baseman and arguably the greatest player not currently in the Hall of Fame.  He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 19th round of the 1979 MLB Draft and spent his entire career with the team.  Back injuries ended his career early, but he did finish with over 2,000 hits and a .300+ batting average.

Below is a look at some of Don Mattingly’s career accomplishments and highlights.

  • 9x Gold Glove
  • 6x All-Star
  • 3x Silver Slugger
  • 1x MVP

Don Mattingly’s rookie card is in the 1984 Topps set alongside fellow All-Star Darryl Strawberry.  Throughout the years, he has been very hit or miss TTM.  Occasionally, he will respond to requests sent to the Miami Marlins.  I sent a card in a plain white envelope and a year later the card came back signed in ball point pen.  More recently, I purchased an autographed Topps Project 2020 to support Don Mattingly’s charity.
