Ryne Sandberg is a Hall of Fame player who is considered one of the top 10 greatest 2nd basemen of all-time.  He was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 20th round of the 1978 MLB Draft.  Ryne Sandberg was the 2nd future Hall of Fame player that the Phillies traded to the Chicago Cubs; Fergie Jenkins was the 1st.   When he retired in 1997, his career .989 fielding percentage was a major league record.  Below is a look at some of Ryne Sandberg’s career achievements and highlights.

  • 1x MVP
  • 10x All-Star
  • 9x Gold Glove
  • 7X Silver Slugger

Ryne Sandberg’s rookie card is in the 1983 Topps set along-side fellow Hall of Famers, Wade Boggs and Tony Gwynn.  Ryne Sandberg is as consistent as they come from a fan mail perspective.  He will sign TTM requests for $5 per card.  I have flipped a few of his autographed rookie cards but I always liked the design of 1983 Topps so I decided to add one that I will keep long-term.  As far as Hall of Fame signed rookie cards go, this card is relatively common as there are nearly 300 autographed 1983 Topps cards in the PSA registry.  Despite the ease of availability, this card should maintain its value and potentially grow slowly over time based on his fan popularity.
