Rudy Tomjanovich is a former NBA power forward and Hall of Fame coach. He was drafted by the San Diego Rockets with the 2nd pick in the 1970 NBA Draft. Rudy Tomjanovich had a very solid NBA playing career. In 11 seasons he averaged over 17 points and 8 rebounds per game. Unfortunately, his playing days are most often remembered for the devasting punch he fell victim of from former Lakers power forward Kermit Washington during a game on December 9th, 1977. After his career, he spent eight years as an assistant coach before being promoted to head coach on the Houston Rockets in 1992. He coached the team to back to back NBA championships in 1994 and 1995.
Below is a look at some of Rudy Tomjanovich’s career accomplishments and highlights.
- 5x All-Star
Rudy Tomjanovich’s rookie card is in the 1971 Topps set alongside fellow Hall of Famers Nate Archibald, Rick Barry, Dave Cowens, Bob Lanier, Charlie Scott and Dan Issel. I purchased a raw card on eBay and sent it in a bubble mailer with a blue sharpie. The card turned out awesome and he included the inscriptions that I requested.
Currently there are only 10 autographed 1971 Topps Rudy Tomjanovich rookie cards in the PSA registry.
